There’s a scene in Tom Ford’s stunningly visual 2009 directorial debut, A Single Man, that stands out from the rest and lingers long after the credits. It’s a coquettish cameo—an icy blonde playing a literature student. She whispers something enigmatic into a male classmate’s ear between long pulls on a cigarette. Her jade eyes almost pierce the screen; her cheekbones could cut the smoke. As the camera pans down to her face, those sharp angles draw us to her lips, so plump and arched, they seem perpetually primed for a kiss. That striking beauty is Aline Weber, the same 5'10" Brazilian model who kisses 11 men in Tom Ford’s latest lipstick ad campaign. She’s appeared on the covers of glossy magazines from Mexico to Japan; catwalked for Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs; and posed for top photographers like Inez and Vinoodh. — Maxim
Anne Vyalitsyna, known to all as Anne V, is a 5'10" Russian supermodel who once posed for the cover of Vogue. She’s a woman with a face so coveted—by the likes of Chanel and Calvin Klein—that she fronted a reality series called The Face. Anne V, who has been the frontwoman for Chanel perfume and a staple of high fashion magazines, is in the midst of a reemergence. The proof is in the pages—captured here by Gilles Bensimon on a boat in Saint-Tropez.
Spend a few hours with glamazon Ashley Graham and you’ll notice not just high-fashion editorials and major ad coups that have made her a a few things. The first is her face: nothing short of arresting, with serious cheekbones, flawless olive skin, and impossibly full lips. It’s as though Eva Mendes, Cindy Crawford, and Brooke Shields had melded into one woman, and then someone turned up the volume. Everything from her charcoal-rimmed eyes and extra-long eyelashes to her tousled brown hair seems to have been amplified. — Maxim
If you happen to be one of Barbara Palvin's 4.2 million Instagram followers, you might imagine that her days off are spent perfecting her enviable pout in a series of luxury hotel suites, flying in helicopters, or taking romantic trips by vaporetto across the Venice lagoon. Indeed, the 23-year-old model has had a particularly glamorous year: The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue's 2016 Rookie of the Year and face of Armani’s Acqua di Gioia stunned on red carpets at the Venice Film Festival; she's shot a number of top secret campaigns and posed for L’Oréal Paris, where she's the beauty brand's youngest-ever spokesperson. But it's not all fast cars and lounging by the pool in Saint-Tropez.
Serbian export Bo Krsmanovic is thankfully forgiving when you inevitably butcher her name. Bo, she says, "is short for Bojana, actually." Then she patiently gives you the phonetic version of her surname: "Kras-MAN-o-vich." She laughs before adding, "Nobody knows how to pronounce it. It's a little bit annoying." Be that as it may, Bo's name is sure to become more familiar. In February of last year, the 25-year-old was a rookie in Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue; like beauties Claudia Schiffer, Laetitia Casta, and Alessandra Ambrosio before her, she's landed major campaigns with Guess. — Maxim
Go ahead and google "Hannah Ferguson twerking." We'll wait. On camera, the swimsuit and lingerie model appears tanned and fearless, not afraid to show her moves, a whole lot of skin, or a bit of a hard edge. She's graced international editions of Elle and Marie Claire, glammed it up for the lingerie brand Triumph, and bared nearly all for Sports Illustrated shoots on some of the Caribbean's most exotic beaches. But in person, as she walks into a cafe near Wall Street with her dark blonde hair pulled back in a tousled ponytail, Ferguson seems more farm girl than man-eater, and it's hard to square her, in the flesh, with the girl dancing on the beach in outtakes from her latest bikini shoot. — Maxim
Hannah Davis likes to win. In the past year she became the star of arguably the most controversial swimsuit cover of all time, the popular host of the successful Lifetime spin- off Project Runway: Junior, re-created the iconic role of the girl in the Ferrari in last year’s National Lampoon reboot, Vacation, and captured the heart of her fiancé, former Yankee and five-time World Series Champion Derek Jeter. Spend a minute with her and it’s obvious why the 25-year-old has risen to the top of her profession.
Jasmine Tookes has spent a good portion of the last year draped in $3 million worth of diamonds and emeralds, trailed by a security guard, and jetting from New York to Paris and back again. Christened a Victoria's Secret Angel in 2015, last year she rocketed to the pinnacle of lingerie model-dom when she was chosen by the brand to don its jeweled "Fantasy Bra"—which is a very big deal, thank you very much. It's like going from rookie to MVP in just two seasons, and Tookes is elated. The fact that she's only the third black model to score that honor—after Tyra Banks and Selita Ebanks—is icing on the cake. When she heard she'd been chosen to wear the pricey undergarment, she cried.
Somewhere, in a parallel universe, Nina Agdal is the most attractive dentist in Denmark. As a teenager, the athletic blonde briefly considered a career in oral hygiene, eventually jettisoning those plans because of the years and years of study involved. "One of my best friends back home still has two years left to go in the course," she adds, contemplating the life in scrubs that might have been. Fortunately for the rest of us (and a certain Hollywood superstar boyfriend), instead of examining molars, at 18 Agdal flew to Miami to become a model. "English was my worst subject in school," she says. "I was very shy about saying anything and was so scared. I landed with $40 and a little piece of paper with the address for the model apartment." She remembers crying at the airport as she struggled to communicate with a taxi driver. But after just two heady years she skyrocketed to fame as the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue's "Rookie of the Year."
That smile. It’s the first thing you notice about Romee Strijd. There’s something about it that puts you at ease, makes you forget you’re chatting with a six-foot-tall Victoria’s Secret Angel. A bona fide supermodel. As she sips an iced latte in a blissfully air-conditioned coffee shop in Chelsea on a sweltering New York day, there’s something about the 21-year-old’s enormous, effortless smile that tells you none of this has gone to her head—not the jet-setting to Europe and the Caribbean, not the Michael Bay commercials, not the rubbing shoulders with celebrities. There’s something about it that says, in a lovely Dutch accent, I could take it or leave it. There’s something about it that says that despite being one of the hottest models on the planet—in both senses—she’s still just a girl from Holland. — Maxim
