There was never any question that a weekend in Montauk hosted by Max Snow and the Surf Lodge was going to be something to write home to Manhattan about. Add Willie Nelson, Courtney Love, two exquisite sunsets, and Chef Chris Rendell’s Diver Caught scallops with cashew chili relish to that equation and you pretty much have me yelling from the haute-motel’s shingled rooftop. When the Surf Lodge invited Snow to be the hotel’s artist in residence for the summer, the photographer readily agreed. The inaugural efforts of that residency were debuted on Saturday evening in the form of a short film shot by Snow—a sort of Malick-by-the-sea endeavor.
